Steph Curry is a four-time NBA champion. You don’t achieve that level of success without being a fierce competitor. Yet, the Golden State Warriors star often gets viewed as one of the NBA’s baby faces. His cool and collected demeanor has ensured Curry’s competitive nature has rarely been a focus of the fanbase or the media.
Yet, former Warriors champion Quinn Cook recently revealed how competitive Curry can be. He made his comments during a recent appearance on the “Captain Jack” podcast. Cook spent two seasons with Curry (2017-2019), winning one of his two career championships with the team.
“I had a relationship with him because I played with his brother at Duke,” Quinn said. “I think the media paints him as a “good guy,” which he is, and he’s unbelievable. But he’s competitive. He wants smoke.”
Curry, 36, is in his 15th NBA season. He’s averaging 26.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5 assists per night on 44.8% shooting from the field and 40.2% shooting from 3-point range. He has proven himself to still be the Warriors’ best player and one of the best guards in the league.

Curry’s competitive edge has been clear throughout his league tenure. Nevertheless, it’s certainly fun to hear about it from the perspective of a former teammate, especially one who embarked on a championship run. Curry will need to tap into that competitive nature if he’s going to lead the Warriors through a tough play-in tournament in the coming weeks.
