The third day of the Democratic National Convention is underway in Chicago. As Democrats rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, they are also showcasing the support of some of their previous rivals— former Trump allies.

Several Republicans have made their way to the DNC stage to make the case for Harris while also highlighting the danger of former President Donald Trump's taking the White House once again.

The second day of the Convention also saw political strategist Ana Navarro, Mesa, Ariz. Mayor John Giles and former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham urging Americans to denounce the former President during his reelection bid.

The third day of the Convention will seek to further highlight Republican voices who are concerned about a potential second Trump term. One of those voices will be Olivia Troye, a Mexican American national security official who served in the Trump administration.

Troye, originally from El Paso, Texas, was named Vice President Mike Pence's special advisor for homeland security and counterterrorism in 2018. She was later named chief staffer on the vice president's Coronavirus Task Force, putting her in the room for many of the administration's decisions about how to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She resigned from her post in July 2020 due to her disappointment at the administration's handling of the pandemic and later joined a group called Republican Voters Against Trump. Four years later, she's still advocating against the former President.

"I think this is such an important moment for the direction and future of our country," Troye said in an interview with El Paso Matters about her appearance at the DNC. "I am hoping to be part of the permission structure and encourage Republicans, independents, conservative voters to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for a better future, not only for the country, but for the [Republican] party in many ways, because we have to defeat Donald Trump."

Troye's convention speech on Wednesday night is expected to include a call for more Republicans, independents and swing voters to vote for Harris, according to CNN.

"Donald Trump is a liar. He lies to people. He has no connection to the people that he pretends to actually stand for and represent. He can't stand them," she told El Paso Matters.

The third day of the DNC will focus on the January 6 insurrection and Donald Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Joining Troye's Republican representation will be Georgia's former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who told CNN his speech would be "directed at Republicans who are sick and tired of making excuses for Donald Trump," while also focusing on the importance of standing up for what is right.

Following those speeches, Rep. Bennie Thompson, who served as the chairman of the January 6 Select Committee. The focus on the attack on the Capitol is meant to serve both as a reminder and a warning of what happened on the infamous day.

Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz will headline the night. Other speeches throughout the night's festivities will include Sens. Cory Booker, Chris Murphy, Catherine Cortez Masto and Amy Klobuchar; the House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi; Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania; Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and former President Bill Clinton.
