Former Tottenham favourite praises Arsenal's style of play with brutal Spurs tactics assessment

Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham has praised Arsenal's style of play, bringing that of Tottenham's into question in recent weeks. It comes amid plenty of interest surrounding the possibility of both North London sides challenging for the Premier League this season.

For the Gunners, they continue to be in the title picture as they sit top of the pile after 12 games played, continuing to impress as games pass by. "They [Man City] are really strong," Mikel Arteta said when quizzed on his side's title chances. "They have done that for five years, and we have not done that."

As for Spurs, their chances have been played down as of late, having struggled to capture the imagination with their performances under Antonio Conte. They currently sit five points behind their North London rivals and three behind Manchester City with one more game played.

After the defeat to Manchester United, the head coach ruled out the possibility of a title challenge, telling reporters: "We have to continue to work to try to improve, to work on the pitch and to work outside the pitch, and I think for sure because sometimes I listen that we are title contenders and I think we need time, in only 10 or 11 months, you cannot pass from ninth place to become the title contenders a year after, especially when you finish 20 points less than the monsters in England."

With their displays coming into question, there remains doubt over whether the Italian can provide success, especially when the Gunners are soaring with attractive football to show for it too. It's led to praise from Sheringham, who has also questioned Conte's tactics.

He told OLBG: "Tottenham's comeback against Bournemouth was definitely not a championship-winning-like performance. It looked like two average teams fighting it out, and the slightly better average team won the game. When you look at how Arsenal and Man City are playing, they're way above Tottenham at the moment. Things might change in the way Tottenham play, they might get players back from injury, and they might make things tick, but it was not a great performance from Tottenham by any means."
