Former Today host Katie Couric has bravely spoken out about her breast cancer diagnosis and said she feels "super lucky" to have caught it early.
The TV anchor, 65, shared the news of her illness on Instagram last Wednesday and said she hopes to raise awareness and help other women.
Katie was diagnosed with cancer on June 21, the day of her eighth wedding anniversary with John Molner. The presenter underwent surgery on July 14 and began radiation on September 7.
Katie has now given fans an update on her health after learning about her cancer during a routine mammogram.
"I'm feeling just fine. I finished radiation last week. They said it makes you tired. I was actually not too tired from it," she said during Monday's episode of Today.
Katie said she will now go on aromatase inhibitors, which will work to "suppress estrogen".
She added: "I just feel super lucky that it was diagnosed when it was. That I went even though I was late, that I went when I did.
"I think those words, 'It's cancerous or you have cancer' do stop you in your tracks."
Katie, who lost her first husband Jay Monahan to colon cancer, was told that her illness was "treatable", though doctors said that she need a plan.
"I went from feeling shocked to not that shocked given my family's history, to relieved because my exposure to cancer with Jay and Emily and my mother-in-law.
"They were all advanced and the prognosis was really tough so I felt so grateful honestly."
The New York Times best-selling author is now in talks with Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro about getting widespread medical coverage for women undergoing further testing.
Katie was inundated with support from fans following her diagnosis.
One person wrote: "You are an inspiration @katiecouric," adding three heart emojis.
Another said: "So important. Thanks for sharing," with a third fan adding: "Love to you dear @katiecouric and thank you for continuing to educate even in the midst of great personal trauma."
"Sending love to you! So sorry you are going through this! Thank you for the reminder," penned a fourth fan.
