Former Tesla workers describe overt racism at company's Fremont factory

Tesla has been accused of overwhelming racial discrimination and race-based harassment in a new lawsuit filed by California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH). The stories told in the lawsuit by former Tesla employees paint a troublesome picture of toxic work culture in the company’s Fremont, California factory.

“Because the factory was racially segregated, Defendants’ workers referred to the areas where many Black and/or African Americans worked as the ‘porch monkey station,’” the lawsuit states. “Defendants’ workers with tattoos of the Confederate flag made their racially incendiary tattoos visible to intimidate Black and/or African American workers.”
