Former Temple Basketball Player Under Investigation For Gambling Activity

Temple's Hysier Miller dribbles up court against UAB during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game in the championship of the American Athletic Conference tournament, March 17, 2024,

Former Temple basketball standout Hysier Miller has been at the center of an investigation by the NCAA regarding unusual gambling activity. Miller, who transferred to Virginia Tech earlier this year, cooperated fully with the NCAA during a five-hour interview, providing all requested documents in an effort to continue playing basketball this season.

However, Virginia Tech released Miller last month citing 'circumstances prior to his enrollment.' Reports have surfaced suggesting a federal probe is now underway to determine if Miller bet on games he played in at Temple and potentially altered his performance accordingly.

Miller, a three-year starter from South Philadelphia, scored eight points in a game against UAB that later raised concerns due to unusual betting activity. Temple University, where Miller previously played, has been cooperative with the NCAA since the allegations came to light in March.

Temple President John Fry stated that the university had not received any requests for information from state or federal law enforcement agencies but pledged full cooperation if such requests were made. Fry emphasized that coaches, student-athletes, and staff members undergo mandatory training on NCAA rules, including prohibitions on sports wagering.

Notably, Loyola (Maryland) also took action after discovering a gambling violation within its basketball program. The American Athletic Conference, where Temple competed in the tournament, declined to comment on the matter.

As the investigation unfolds, Miller's lawyer expressed confidence in his client's ability to overcome any challenges that may arise. The situation remains fluid as authorities continue to look into the allegations surrounding Miller's involvement in sports betting during his time at Temple.
