Joseph Anang is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after fracturing his arm.
The former St Patrick’s Athletic goalkeeper was injured in a training session for his new club Derby County.
Anang was a hit with the Saints having joined on loan from West Ham United at the start of the season.
And he made a number of impressive saves during their European run against NS Mura and CSKA Sofia.
Derby then managed to snatch Anang away from the League of Ireland having landed a season-long loan to the League One Club.
But his efforts to dislodge Joe Wildsmith as No 1 have hit a stumbling block with this setback and he was replaced on the bench for Saturday’s draw with Fleetwood.
“I was delighted to bring Joseph in - we tried to get him earlier in the summer," said Derby’s goalkeeper coach Jason Pearcey.
“He’s someone I’ve known for a long time and I’ve seen him come through the ranks at West Ham United.
“He trained a couple of times after joining and it was a freak incident in training that has unfortunately led to him cracking a bone in his arm.
“We’ve been told it’ll be a five or six six-week spell on the sidelines but we’re keeping him involved and are working with him tactically so he’s ready to come back.”
