Former Scotland star Kevin McNaughton flooded with support from football world after concerning online posts

The footballing world rallied around former Scotland star Kevin McNaughton after posts on social media caused concern for his wellbeing.

It's understood McNaughton was missing for a period of time before he was thankfully discovered safe and well in Dundee.

On Thursday morning it was reported that the 39-year-old's car was stolen from his home.

This sparked despair as McNaughton took to Twitter to explain his anguish.

He explained in the post that his belongings within the stolen vehicle were all he had and that the robbery had come at a difficult time.

In the post, he said: "To the guy that stole my car, you stole a lot of my clothes in a tough time, you stole my life. It might mean nothing to you, but it was all I had."

Police confirmed they then received a report of concern for a person after the former Aberdeen and Cardiff City star went missing from his home at around 9.05am.

Officers carried out searches and following enquiries he was thankfully found safe and well.

McNaughton is currently a youth team coach at Dundee.

In a glittering career he made 173 appearances for the Dons and played 254 times for Cardiff before moving on to Bolton, Wigan, Inverness and Forfar.

McNaughton also starred for his country and has four Scotland caps.

Following the news, messages of support from former teammates and friends flooded in on social media.

Aberdeen Football Club tweeted: "Please reach out Kevin, or contact Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87, everyone at AFC is here for you."

The club later added: "Super Kev. Everyone at AFC sends their love and support to Kevin McNaughton."

Cardiff City FC posted: "Show this man your love and support today. Super Kev McNaughton."

Motherwell FC Chief Executive, Alan Burrows said: "Please hold on and reach out, Kevin.

"Give Breathing Space a call on 0800 83 85 87. They will help you, I’m sure of it."

Former Dundee defender Lee Mair said: "There are lots of people trying to contact him. Fingers crossed they can find him."

Ex-Celtic and Dundee goalkeeper Robert Douglas said: "Kevin get in touch, karaoke king, let us know you are ok."

Wigan defender Joe Bennett said: "Here if you need a chat mate."

Bolton Wanderers fan page Lion of Vienna Suite said: "Stay strong Kev, loads of people out there who will help you"

Cardiff fan Owain Jones said: "Kev you are so loved mate whatever pain you feel it will pass in time.

"Always here for you as are many others."

Another supporter of the Bluebirds Ricky Morgan added: "Never forget who you are. Legend."

McNaughton's former teammate Mark Hudson said: "Just heard, Kev has been found by the police safe and well. I will update but please respect his friends and family. Thank you everyone."

Former Cardiff striker Michael Chopra added: "Just heard, Kev has been found by the police safe and well."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.05am on Thursday, January 27 officers received a report of concern for a 39-year-old man in Dundee who was missing from his home.

"Officers carried out searches and enquiries and he was found safe and well in the Dundee area."
