Former Rep. Fred Upton, a Republican who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, has revealed that he cast his vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Upton expressed his pride in supporting Harris, marking the first time he has voted for a Democratic presidential candidate.
Upton cited Trump's behavior as evidence of his unsuitability for the presidency, emphasizing his belief that Trump is unfit to serve as commander-in-chief. Despite not aligning with all of Harris's policies, Upton commended her dedication to the well-being of Americans.
In a bold statement, Upton urged individuals from all political affiliations to reject the divisiveness associated with Trump and instead back Harris for the presidency.
Former Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who also voted to impeach Trump and are supporting Harris in the 2024 election, have faced criticism from Trump on social media. Trump referred to Cheney as 'Crazed Warhawk Liz Cheney' and 'a low IQ War Hawk.'
Upton, who served in Congress for over three decades until early 2023, did not seek reelection in 2022.
