Former Rangers man 'could be snapped up' by Nottingham Forest

New Nottingham Forest chief football officer Ross Wilson is reportedly interested in 'snapping up' former Rangers colleague Craig Mulholland to oversee the club’s youth system.

Wilson, who joined the club from Scottish giants Rangers last month, replaced the sacked Filippo Giraldi who had left just a few days earlier. He spent three-and-a-half years at Rangers, where he worked alongside Mulholland.

Well-regarded current academy director Gary Brazil is out of contract with the club in the summer, with The Athletic claiming last month that he was yet to hear from the Reds over his future. Now, according to the Sun’s Alan Nixon , he is ‘set to leave his post’, with Forest eyeing Mulholland as a replacement.

Brazil has been with Forest since 2012. His work with the youth teams at the City Ground has seen a number of players rise into the first team, the likes of Brennan Johnson, Matty Cash and Ben Brereton Diaz have all come through the youth ranks with the club.

Mulholland has recently left his role with Rangers, meaning that he should be an easy pick up by Forest. His job would be to help develop youngsters in order for them to be able to break in and make an impact on the first team, just as Johnson has done.

After coming up through the youth sides, the 21-year-old impressed in a loan spell with Lincoln City in 2020/21. He then made the breakthrough into the first team in the Championship promotion season, playing a key role in the side’s rise to the Premier League.

The winger has since been a key player in Forest’s hopes of surviving this season. He has scored eight goals and provided two assists in his 38 league appearances so far this season.
