Former Rangers defender makes return as director of football at Championship club

Former Rangers and Partick Thistle defender Dave MacKinnon has been named as director of football at Scottish Championship club Hamilton Accies.

The 66-year-old was last with fellow second tier side Greenock Morton as chief executive but returns to New Douglas Park in their newly-created upstairs role, where he was once media and communications director. It comes as part of a period of change at the South Lanarkshire side, with head coach Stuart Taylor replaced in the dugout by his assistant, former Dundee United and Hibs midfielder John Rankin.

Part of Mackinnon's role will be to help Rankin in his first senior management gig, with recruitment likely to be a big part of the former Rangers man's job alongside his notable experience at a high level. Accies chairman Allan Maitland commented: “We are delighted to confirm John. As a person he possesses all the qualities which were looking for to take the club forward."
