Former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst spotted at Man City vs Arsenal as he takes in EPL clash

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was back in the UK as he took in some English Premier League action.

The former Rangers boss was in attendance at the Etihad as Arsenal faced Manchester City in a top of the table clash in England's top flight. The Dutchman played for the Gunners after his stint as a player at Ibrox and was in the crowd to support his old side in images shared by sports broadcaster Jim White. However, it was a night to forget for Mikel Arteta and his troops as they lost out 4-1.

It was a masterclass from Pep Guardiola's side who move to within two points of the league leaders but now importantly boast two games in hand over the North London outfit as they chase a Treble this campaign. They are also in the Champions League semi-final while they face Manchester United in the FA Cup Final as they bid to make it a memorable campaign.

Van Bronckhorst is still on the lookout for his next opportunity following his Rangers exit. He was axed following a poor run of form that left the Light Blues trailing Ange Postcoglou and his troops ahead of the World Cup break. He was in charge at the club for just over a year after replacing Steven Gerrard.

He guided his side to the Europa League Final before a heartbreaking defeat to Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt in the final on penalties. They bagged a Scottish Cup trophy while also reaching the Champions League group stage ealrier this season. However, that ended with the club landing the 'worst ever' tag after six defeats from six and some heavy losses along the way.

Speaking about his exit from the club for the first time last November, he revealed: "The opportunity to manage an institution like Rangers FC is a privilege which very few are afforded. As a former player, I understood the responsibility and magnitude of the task.

"My backroom team and I worked with energy, passion and were driven with a belief that we could achieve amazing things. We treated our roles with respect, optimism and determination.

"We experienced some incredible highs, especially on our European journey to Seville. Winning the Scottish Cup for the first time in over a decade and qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League is something I am very proud of. The passion of our support drove us on to achieve those wonderful memories. For that, I am forever grateful to every single one of you who travelled near and far, spent your hard earned money, and never gave up supporting our team.

"This season, like every year at Rangers, the first priority is domestic success. I understand the hurt when wins become draws, and worse, when we experience defeat. That isn’t acceptable at a club of Rangers standing, no one understood that and felt that more than I did. I faced unique challenges and some very difficult circumstances to operate in.

"Rangers FC will always be in my heart and I wish the club all the success for the future. Once a Ranger, always a Ranger."
