Former Rangers and Hibs star Jason Cummings tipped to give players 'headache' at World Cup

Jason Cummings has been tipped to give opposition players a 'headache' at the World Cup as he bids to showcase his talents on the global stage.

The former Rangers and Hibs star has been selected by Graham Arnold as part of his 26-man Australia squad after turning his career around Down Under with Central Coast Mariners. His form and goals return has been rewarded and he will now get the chance to test himself in a tough section alongside France, Denmark and Tunisia.

His involvement at this level of the game has former Scotland and Chelsea star Pat Nevin intrigued hailing him as a 'great' player to watch and someone who is full of energy and goals. He admits he was surprised how things didn't go quite to plan after his Easter Road exit, but this is another big chance for the striker to show his class. Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Nevin said: "I'm intrigued to see Jason Cummings at the World Cup. He's a great player to watch when he's got that energy and his goalscoring is good as well.

"I was surprised and saddened that it didn't go quite as well as I expected it to go when he left Hibernian, but this is another chance for him. If the Jason Cummings of old turns up then he'll give people headaches.

"I have hope that he'll do well for Australia at the World Cup. One thing is for sure, lack of effort will not be a problem."

After his call-up for the Socceroos, a buzzing Cummings said: : “It is amazing, a dream come true. I can hardly put into words what it means to me and to describe to you how I am feeling.

“I would say it is the proudest moment of my whole career to be called up for Australia for the World Cup. A lot of people in Scotland had written me off.

“There was the claims I had a bad attitude and I was this and that. I was just the class clown and the joker. That was never the case.

“Football always comes first, and at my last club I wasn’t playing and I wasn’t getting the opportunity I have got across here. Now I am playing, doing well and I am making my name as a footballer.”
