Two former pit mates have been reunited in Sunderland by chance after living 3,000 miles away from each other for the past 40 years.
Tom Robson, 89, worked in the coal pits across Blyth, South Durham, and Northumberland for 35 years before emigrating to Canada in 1981 where he lived for 39 years.
However, he wanted to be closer to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and decided to return to his roots recently moving to Sunderland at Herriot Gardens, a McCarthy Stone Retirement Living development .
