Quarterback Sean Clifford, a fifth-round pick for the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 NFL draft out of Penn State, is heading to the professional ranks after a six-year career with the Nittany Lions.
If you’re Clifford, do you announce to the world that you were one of the select few college football players to be drafted into the NFL? Just like you would for any other job: by updating your LinkedIn profile.
On Monday, Clifford changed his account information to include his new team following his selection over the weekend. Per his profile, he is a “full-time” football player for the Packers as of May 2023.

To be fair, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising. The business-minded quarterback co-founded a student-athlete name, image and likeness agency with his brother (which sold earlier this year) and, per his profile — which is quite thorough, by the way — he is also a self-described angel investor in several companies.
Clifford, a four-year starter in college, joins a Green Bay team that enters a new era without longtime quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He’ll likely be asked to play a backup role behind Jordan Love, a 2020 first-round pick who is finally getting his chance to start, but we’ve seen late-round quarterbacks contribute as rookies recently, namely last year’s Mr. Irrelevant in Brock Purdy.
