Former Packers OLB Justin Hollins signs with Giants practice squad

After being released twice in the last month, outside linebacker Justin Hollins left Green Bay to sign with the practice squad of the New York Giants. The signing was announced by the Giants on Tuesday.

The Packers released Hollins on Saturday to make room for cornerback Eric Stokes, who was activated from the PUP list to the 53-man roster. Earlier in the month, Hollins was released to make room for running back Patrick Taylor before playing the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, both Hollins and Taylor (New England Patriots) are on practice squads elsewhere.

Although he made the 53-man roster coming out of training camp and was re-signed after being released for the first time in October, Hollins was clearly one of the team’s bottom-of-the-roster players and likely sought a new opportunity elsewhere. The Packers have 2022 fifth-round pick Kingsley Enagbare, 2023 first-round pick Lukas Van Ness and developmental prospect Brenton Cox Jr. as backups at edge rusher.

Acquired via waivers in 2022, Hollins played in 10 games for the Packers over the last two seasons, tallying 2.5 sacks, nine tackles (three tackles for loss) and four quarterback hits. He was on the field for 212 defensive snaps and 28 special teams snaps.

Hollins, 27, was originally a fifth-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2019. He’s played in 59 career games.
