Former Nottingham Forest star lands coaching role after poignant retirement message

Former Nottingham Forest defender Chris Gunter is taking his first steps in coaching after joining up with Wales for their first round of Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Gunter, who announced his retirement from international football earlier this month, has linked up with Rob Page’s backroom staff for the games away to Croatia in Split on Saturday night and at home to Latvia in Cardiff on Tuesday.

“Chris Gunter has joined up with the senior men’s team in a coaching capacity for the March international window,” said a Football Association of Wales statement. “Gunter has joined up with Rob Page’s coaching staff in a supporting role after announcing his international retirement as a player earlier this month. The role is seen as part of a transition into future coaching work.”
