Former North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee has emerged victorious in the Republican primary for Nevada's 4th Congressional District. He is set to challenge incumbent Democrat Rep. Steven Horsford in the upcoming November general election.
Lee, who received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, secured a lead over his closest competitor, Air Force veteran David Flippo, as the results were announced.
Trump's endorsement, which came less than two weeks before the primary, played a significant role in boosting Lee's campaign. This support has positioned Lee to potentially capture one of the more competitive House seats for Republicans this year.
Lee has a strong political background, having served as the Mayor of North Las Vegas from 2013 to 2022. Prior to that, he held positions in the state Senate from 2004 to 2012 and the state Assembly from 1996 to 2002.
The current composition of the House of Representatives sees Republicans holding a narrow 218-213 vote majority. This majority has been reduced since the 2022 midterm elections due to various resignations and an expulsion.
Election analysts have labeled the race for Nevada's 4th Congressional District as 'likely Democratic.' This designation sets the stage for a closely watched and potentially pivotal contest between Lee and Horsford in the general election.
