Former Newcastle star believes Ryan Fraser's future belongs 'away from' St James' Park

Former Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique has suggested that it's only a matter of time before Ryan Fraser leaves St James' Park.

Fraser has played eight matches for Newcastle in the Premier League this term, with five of those appearances coming off the bench.

His playing time is likely to be reduced further if Allan Saint-Maximin can maintain his fitness. And Enrique believes that if Newcastle sign another winger in January, then it could spell the end for the Scotsman.

"It depends on who comes in and if Saint-Maximin stays fit. It will be difficult for him to have any game time if it is the case," Enrique told Lord Ping.

"I really like him, however if Newcastle keep growing and get Europe, they will want to sign bigger players. He is good though, however his future is probably away from Newcastle."

Fraser penned a five-year deal with Newcastle when he arrived from AFC Bournemouth in September 2020. The 28-year-old has been hampered by injuries during his stay on Tyneside, and has registered just three goals and six assists in 59 appearances for the club.

The winger filled in for Saint-Maximin in the defeat at Liverpool and the draws against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively earlier in the season. However, he has not started a league game for Newcastle since September.
