HYDERABAD: National Disaster Management Authority former vice-chairman Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Monday said no one was ready to buy the unbelievable theory of foreign conspiracy in cloudbursts. He was referring to recent remarks made by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
He said the TRS government should wake up and gear up to deal with urban flooding as more towns are going to be affected by floods. Reacting to chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s comment on ‘international hand’ in cloudburst, Shashidhar Reddy said if there is a rainfall of 100 mm per hour, then it can be considered as cloudburst.
It was not a cloudburst in Uttarakhand as claimed by the chief minister, he said. “We do not have enough equipment to accurately measure the rainfall. Also, the TRS government has not conducted preparatory meetings or disaster management committee meetings in the last eight years at the state level,” said Shashidhar Reddy.
He said the rainfall registered by the state is much greater than what the cloudburst would result in. He asked the chief minsiter to provide any kind of information that he has about his cloudburst theory to relevant agencies who can look into the issue.
The Congress leader mocked that KCR, who claimed to have studied 80,000 books, was not aware of the concept of the cloudbursts. “KCR is playing diversion politics. The urban areas would witness more floods in future and the state government should follow disaster management rules which were framed during the Congress government,” he said.
