Former NBA player and 'Survivor' contestant Scot Pollard recently shared his emotional journey of receiving a heart transplant and his desire to connect with the donor's family. Pollard, who underwent a successful heart transplant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in February, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the donor's family in a heartfelt letter.

Having inherited a heart condition from his father, Pollard knew for years that a transplant was his only solution. Despite the challenges of finding a suitable donor organ for his large frame, doctors eventually found a match that saved his life. Pollard, a 11-year NBA veteran and member of the 2008 champion Boston Celtics, emphasized the importance of organ donation awareness during his recovery.

After sending a letter through the transplant network expressing his deep appreciation to the donor's family, Pollard was moved to tears upon learning that they were willing to meet. The family responded with gratitude for Pollard's kind words and shared the difficulty of their loss, yet found solace in knowing that others would benefit from the donation.

As Pollard works on a documentary to raise awareness for organ donation, his next step involves signing a release to potentially meet the donor's family in person. He remains respectful of their privacy and readiness to go public with their story, emphasizing his willingness to connect whenever they are ready.

Pollard's journey serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of organ donation and the profound connections that can be forged through the selfless act of giving the gift of life.
