Former Merry Hill chief appointed as Bullring and Grand Central GM

Birmingham's famous Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres have a new man at the helm.

Dan Murphy has been appointed as general manager of the two centres, bringing more than 15 years of experience in senior retail management to the post. He replaces Stephanie Lacey who was in the role for almost four years.

His previous roles include spells as general manager of the Merry Hill centre in Brierley Hill and other senior positions at the Trafford Centre in Greater Manchester, Intu in Derby and with property agency JLL.

Mr Murphy said: "I'm excited to be joining the team at Bullring and Grand Central. Over the years, I've watched as the destination has become not only a landmark for Birmingham and the centre for local communities but centre stage for world events such as the Commonwealth Games.

"Next year, we'll celebrate our 20th anniversary so I'm looking forward to working with the team to create new experiences that will engage and excite our customers in ways they've never seen before."

Among the new tenants set to open next year are a new Marks & Spencer food-led store in the former Debenhams anchor unit, interactive football venue Toca Social, fashion brand Tessuti and the Midlands largest JD Sports.

Recent store launches include gifts and homeware retailer Miniso and luxury watch brand Breitling.
