Former Manchester United midfielder feels Anthony Martial may have played last game for club

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick believes Anthony Martial may have already played his last game for the club amid his ongoing attempts to secure a transfer.

The striker clashed with interim manager Ralf Rangnick on Saturday after the German claimed he had refused to play in United’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, having been told he would be involved.

Martial refuted the suggestion, insisting in a social media post later that same evening: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United”.

Rangnick has since revealed that the situation is “now resolved”, although the United boss didn’t backtrack on his original statement.

Martial has already made his desire to leave Old Trafford clear, having told Rangnick he wants to make his exit during the January transfer window.

Despite that, he remains with the club, with an offer from Sevilla to take him on loan having been turned down, although Chadwick feels the end is nigh for the France international at United.

“It’s a really strange situation,” Chadwick told CaughtOffside.

“You’d hope there’s been a communication breakdown rather than someone not telling the truth.

“From the outside, it seems like Martial’s not happy about not getting any game time. It’s hard to imagine the manager would just come out and say that, but you’d also hope the player wouldn’t lie about it. It’s a bizarre situation and something the club really don’t need.

“It does seem to be the end of the line for Martial in terms of his career at United. There have been plenty of transfer rumours about something happening in this window, and I don’t imagine we’ll see much more of him.

“It does seem to be the end will be coming for him, if not in January, then the end of the season. I doubt we’ll see much more of him in a Manchester United shirt, if at all.”
