Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce is set to replace Valerian Ismael as West Brom manager after he was sacked, according to reports.
The ex-Bayern Munich centre-back was relieved of his duties after just eight months in the position after the Baggies managed just three wins in their last 10, one of which in their previous five outings, leaving them clinging onto a spot in the play-offs.
Bruce has been out of the managerial hot seat since his sacking at St James' Park in light of the Saudi Arabian-led takeover at Newcastle United, shortly after taking charge of his 1,000th game in management.
After scoring 51 goals in over 400 appearances in the North West, he was tentatively linked with the vacant role in November after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking.
The 61-year-old was a double-winner with United during his nine-year spell at Old Trafford and the recent exclusive from the Mirror provides positive news for the former Red after admitting the toils of his time as Magpies boss took its toll on himself and his family.
He is the favourite to take over at The Hawthorns and take over the task of bringing the West Midlands side back to the Premier League after their relegation to the second-tier, last season.
They are currently eight points adrift of Blackburn Rovers in the automatic promotion places and 13 away from league leaders Fulham after their recent disappointment away to Millwall.
Should he take over at West Brom, he will be looking to lead his third club to the English top-flight after helping Birmingham City and Hull City to promotion.
