Former Manchester United favourite suffers injury heartbreak as messages pour in

Manchester United have wished Javier Hernandez well in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) suffered while playing for LA Galaxy.

The 35-year-old former United striker picked up the injury playing against Real Salt Lake in the US Open Cup quarter-final. He is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines and will undergo surgery.

It's possible that Hernandez could have played his last game for the Galaxy, with his contract set to expire at the end of the MLS campaign. It remains to be seen when the former United striker will be back in action.

A statement from the MLS side read: "The LA Galaxy today announced that forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernández sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the club’s 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal match against Real Salt Lake on June 7. Hernández will undergo surgery on a date to be determined to begin the rehabilitation process."

United responded to the update and wished their former striker well in his recovery. The club tweeted: "Wishing you the best in your recovery." David de Gea responded to the news on Instagram, sending a heart emoji to his former teammate.

Hernandez joined United in 2010 from Mexican side Guadalajara. He made an instant impact at Old Trafford, scoring 20 goals as United won the Premier League title and were runners-up to Barcelona in the 2011 Champions League final.

During his time at United, Hernandez won the Premier League again in 2013 and scored 59 goals in 157 games for the club. He had a loan spell at Real Madrid in 2014 after Louis van Gaal's arrival at United and was sold to German side Bayer Leverkusen the following year.

He returned to England in 2017 when he joined London side West Ham United, before heading to Spanish outfit Sevilla in 2019. He has been at LA Galaxy since 2020, where he has scored 39 goals in 83 games.
