Former Liverpool star who aimed dig at Reds could play for Tottenham at Anfield

Former Liverpool Academy prospect Alfie Devine could get the chance to feature against Jurgen Klopp's side this afternoon.

Devine, who signed for Spurs in 2021, was released by the Reds at the age of 11 and later become part of Wigan Athletic's youth setup.

After impressing for the Latics, the 18-year-old midfielder was acquired by the Lilywhites for £300,000 as Wigan aimed to raise funds after going into administration.

Devine became the youngest player to represent Tottenham in a senior game when featuring against Marine in an FA Cup clash in January 2021 and has made one first-team appearance this campaign.

Predominantly featuring for Spurs' under-21s team, the teenager got the chance to get one over on the Reds back in September 2021 after scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Barry Letwas' side. Kaide Gordon had given the Reds an early lead, though Devine levelled before half-time before scoring a winner nine minutes from the full-time whistle.

Reacting to his performance on Instagram, the Warrington-born midfielder poked fun at Liverpool's decision to release him as a youngster. "It always comes back to haunt them... two goals," he wrote.

Whether or not Devine is summoned from the bench this afternoon remains to be seen, though will likely feel he has a point to prove if called upon by Ryan Mason.
