Former Limerick hurler Shane Dowling gets engaged to partner at Adare Manor

Former Limerick hurler and RTE pundit Shane Dowling has proposed to his partner Paula Donnelly.

The couple became engaged while enjoying a break in the luxurious Adare Manor in Shane's native Limerick, reports RSVPLIVE.

Shane, who was part of the Limerick hurling team for their All-Ireland win in 2018, took to social media to share the news.

A picture showed the happy couple posing outside Adare Manor on Friday evening.

Paula's gorgeous engagement ring could be seen as the husband and wife-to-be looked lovingly at each other.

"A Christmas like no other to be had," the RTE star wrote.

Shane and Paula were inundated with countless heartfelt messages from people congratulating them on their news.

One follower tweeted: "Congratulations, very best wishes to you both!"

"Congratulations buddy. Wishing you and Paula many many years of health and happiness together," a second added.

"Huge congratulations Shane. Brilliant news. Enjoy the celebrations," a third wrote.

And fellow GAA pundit Ursula Jacob said: "Ah massive congrats to you both brilliant news. Enjoy the celebrations".

While Shane is best known for his remarkable hurling career, he has also been part of The Sunday Game punditry team in 2020.

Earlier this year, the sports star explained that he received shocking abuse on social media following the Munster final between Limerick and Clare.

Writing for RTE, Shane said at the time: "I have never experienced the levels of online abuse that I have been subjected to over the last ten days, but obviously that is where society is gone.

"I have been involved in sendings off, as have my team-mates, and when you go about an appeal they are very stressful times for players and families.

"Trust me, I've seen it first hand.

"If I am nothing else since I started work on The Sunday Game, I am most certainly pro players.

"Not being long out of the game I know full well what players do, and what they want.

"Whenever a chance has presented itself, in recent times or times ahead, if it makes sense I will back players more so than anybody else.

"Seeing the lads get cited, followed by proposed bans and suspensions, gave me absolutely zero satisfaction, and I mean that

"It is not very nice, and players go through a hard time.

"A lot of people disagree with what was broadcasted, and a lot agree, while some make up their own agendas to suit themselves.

"It's like everything really."
