Former Knotty Ash social club faces revamp to become care home

Fresh plans have been put forward to transform a former social club in Knotty Ash into a new care home.

Last October, proposals were submitted to Liverpool Council for an extension on the site of the Mayfair social club on Grant Road to be knocked down as it is transformed into an 18-room care facility. According to planning documents issued to the local authority, the site is currently vacant.

Now, a new bid has been put to the council’s planning department, reducing the number of beds required.

The current two-storey building, which acted as a club premises, would be subject to the change of use but no additional alterations are expected to be made to vehicle or pedestrian access, including amendments to parking on site. The documents, which were received by Liverpool Council last month, said the land on which the site sits is now owned by applicant Flannigan Estates.

The site, which housed a function room and bar lounge on separate sides of the building, measures at 888 square metres and would now host 17 en-suite bedrooms throughout, one less than originally proposed. Kitchen, office and laundry facilities are also proposed within the application.

A lounge and dining facilities would be located at the centre of the proposal for future residents. Gardens and an outdoor seating area are planned for the rear of the property, with screened bin storage.

The planning documents said a private waste collection contract will be entered into for the supply and ongoing collection of Eurobins. The existing car parking area is to be retained within the curtilage of the site and demarcation added.

As part of the change of use, an existing smoking shelter outside the building will be removed as well as an extension. New PVC windows at the side and front of the building are proposed to be installed to the current brick facade.

New doors will also be fitted to the building to replace steel shutters in place on the existing front of the building. The proposed operator of the care home is not identified within the planning application.

A date has not yet been set for the plans to be considered by Liverpool Council’s planning department.
