Former Kilmarnock player commits future to Airdrieonians

Airdrieonians have announced a contract extension for star midfielder Adam Frizzell.

The Diamonds winger was one of the club's standout performers last season and he was rewarded with the club's players' player of the year prize.

And the New Broomfield faithful will be delighted to learn new player-manager Rhys McCabe has secured his services for the 2022/23 League One campaign.

The 24-year-old ex-Kilmarnock man netted four times in 38 appearances last term, having joined last summer.

Airdrie announced the news with a statement reading: "Airdrie’s squad for next season was further boosted today as midfielder Adam Frizzell put pen to paper on a contract extension.

"The 24-year-old former Kilmarnock man joined the Diamonds from Dumbarton last summer, and immediately impressed supporters with his skill and work-rate.

"Needless to say we’re delighted that Adam has chosen to return to the Excelsior in the face of interest from other clubs, and we can’t wait to see him back in the Diamond as Rhys McCabe’s squad continues to take shape."

Frizzell's extension arrives after the news defender Craig Watson is also extending his contract with the club.

Signing his new deal with the club, Craig told airdriefc.com: “I loved last season both individually and collectively as a part of the team. It was the fresh start I needed and it was easily my most enjoyable season for a long time.

“Of course I was, and still am, absolutely gutted about the play-off final - I’m positive we can build on that as a team and go one further in the coming season.

“The appointment of Rhys and Dycey to gaffer and assistant is an exciting one and I’m personally really looking forward to playing for them. I look forward to seeing the players that will be added to the strong core of a team we already have to help the squad push for the league next year.”

Yesterday McCabe made his first new signing with the arrival of Cammy Ballantyne from Montrose.
