Former Jaguars TE James O’Shaughnessy signs with the Chicago Bears

The Jacksonville Jaguars elected to part ways with veteran tight end James O’Shaughnessy this offseason. They replaced him by signing former New York Giants tight end Evan Engram.

On Monday, O’Shaughnessy found a new home with the Chicago Bears. He joins Chicago after spending the last five seasons with the Jaguars.

O’Shaughnessy is a former 2015 fifth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was traded to New England after two seasons with the Chiefs. He ended up being waived on Sept. 2 in 2017 and was claimed by the Jags the following day.

In his seven-year career, he has played in 80 games, starting 40 of them. He has also caught 112 passes for 1,108 yards and three touchdowns. His best season was with the Jaguars in 2020 where he hauled in 28 passes for 262 yards.

O’Shaughnessy was a solid tight end in the blocking and had some good moments as a pass-catcher when Blake Bortles and Gardner Minshew II were behind center. He was a valuable contributor to the Jaguars when he was healthy.
