Former ITV Corrie star's glam look gets two word response from on-screen daughter Millie Gibson as she looks so different at charity ball

There were tears on the cobbles earlier this year as Kel Allen's character Laura Neelan passed away as part of a heartbreaking storyline. Shortly after troubled teen Kelly Neelan, played by Millie Gibson, found out that her father had been murdered, her mum lost her battle with stomach cancer.

Coronation Street fans were in tears as Kelly, who had cared for her abusive mum in her final weeks, failed to make it to the hospital in time to see her before she died. Kelly had refused to see Laura after she took the rap for murdering Kelly's dad, her late husband Rick Neelan.

Instead of turning his killer Gary Windass in to the police, Laura made the sacrifice so that Gary could become Kelly's guardian after her death after he had become a father figure to her. There were heart-wrenching scenes as Kelly held her mum in her hospital bed as she wept.

Soap star Kel looked a world away from the drama in Weatherfield as she attended Loose Women star Denise Welch's star-studded Enchanted Wonderland theme event at Manchester's Kimpton Clocktower on Saturday night. The event was her 21st ball for The Gem Appeal, which funds research into genetic disorders.

Kel wowed in a plunging black sparkly dress. She accessorised with drop earrings and added a festive red lip, and the compliments came flooding in. "An evening well spent…" she wrote as she shared a photo on her Instagram. And she added: "#charityball #kimptonclocktower #manchester #andrelax #lookingformypint."

Her on-screen daughter Millie gasped: "HOLY MAMMA." And Kel replied: "Ohhh my gorgeous babba!" vicksmyers commented: "Gorgeous." And shancharnleyx said: "You look amazing."

jenniferlouise34 messaged: "Wowsers x" pipsminitwee told her: "A million dollars." And marklindsay1711 added: "You look a doll Kel..... gorgeous x"

Kel was beaming with pride on Friday as Millie revealed that the actress will be Doctor Who's new companion. Millie, who exited the cobbles in September after three years playing Kelly, has landed the role of Ruby Sunday and will star alongside Ncuti Gatwa, who was revealed as the 15th Doctor earlier this year.

The 18-year-old will make her debut over the festive season in 2023 when Ncuti takes control of the Tardis. Kel took to Instagram with a picture of the pair smiling together on the famous street as she said: "Just when you thought you couldn’t be any prouder... she goes and smashes it out of the bloody park."

She added: "Meet your new @bbcdoctorwho companion… @milliegibbo Beaming with pride!! We love you babba!" And Millie responded: "My mamma. My friend. And my idol. I love this and you hehe xxx"

Kel first appeared in Coronation Street in January 2018 as Lulu Lockett, the manager of the strip club Tassels where Bethany Platt worked for a while as a lapdancer. She returned to the programme in April 2020 this year to make a big impact as Laura, the widow of loan shark Rick.

In November she posed a snap of herself and Millie reunited with Charlie De Melo who played Imran Habeeb in the soap as they went to see him in the Alan Bennett play The Clothes They Stood Up In. "We’re sooo blummin’ proud of our @charliedemelo bab!" she wrote.

"Dysfunctional Family road trip (@realgeorgiataylor we missed you gorgeous) Nottingham Playhouse. The Clothes They Stood Up In. An outstanding piece of theatre written by Alan Bennett & beautifully performed and wowed by a super talented cast!" She added: "WELL BLOODY DONE R KID, YOU ABSOLUTELY SMASHED IT."
