Former Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz has recently voiced his support for Israel's operation in Lebanon, urging for its continuation and expansion. Gantz, who is the leader of the National Unity party, had resigned from Israel's emergency war cabinet in June due to disagreements with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the war in Gaza.
During a visit to the northern Israeli town of Karmiel, Gantz emphasized the importance of the ground operation in Lebanon to ensure the safety and return of residents in Northern Israel to their homes.
Despite the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) describing the ground operation as 'limited' and 'localized,' the involvement of four IDF divisions and evacuation orders for more than a quarter of Lebanon's territory indicate a significant military presence in the region.
Gantz, a retired army general who previously served as the chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces and as the country's defense minister, has a history of military service dating back to Israel's invasions of Lebanon in 1982 and 2006.
His call for the expansion of the operation in Lebanon reflects the ongoing tensions in the region and the Israeli government's commitment to ensuring the security of its citizens.
