Former India international Sharaf Ali named KSSC president

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government on Monday appointed former Indian football captain U Sharaf Ali as the new president of Kerala State Sports Council. Sharaf Ali will be replacing Olympian Mercy Kuttan, who submitted her resignation along with other standing committee members of the council.

Indications are that Mercy and her team took the exit door following alleged disagreements with the sports minister V Abdurahiman. It is learnt that Mercy’s public criticism of the sports minister forced the CPM leadership to demand her resignation.
