Former human rights lawyer spared jail after admitting fraud over Iraq war claims

An award-winning former human rights lawyer has been spared jail after admitting to fraud charges linked to false abuse claims made against war veterans.

Phil Shiner, the principal solicitor of the law firm Public Interest Lawyers, was given a two -year suspended sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty in October to misconduct and dishonesty relating to untruthful claims against combatants in the Iraq war.
