Former hotel and restaurant could be transformed into hostel

Plans have been made to turn a Wirral hotel into a hostel.

The application aims to convert the The Grove House Hotel, in Wallasey into a residential hostel for three years. Rooms within the three star hotel will be kept the same, and used as twin hostel rooms.

Part of a design and access statement submitted to Wirral Council said: "Discussions with the local council and visits to the site advised that a formal application to change the use of the hotel to a hostel was required.

“Contrary to this recommendation, our client has sought advice that advises a formal change of use is not required, supported by the fact there are precedents, up and down the country, of hotels currently being used for temporary hostel use, without the need for formal applications.

“Our client, as a local businessman and developer, has always looked to work with the council, to ensure the execution of applications satisfies all involved. It is therefore without prejudice that our client is looking to apply formally for a change of use, to satisfy Wirral Council.”

The hotel was forced to close its doors in May 2021 due to falling profits as a result of the pandemic. To view the application, visit here.
