Former Hibs boss Jack Ross is set to open talks with Motherwell over the vacant manager's role at Fir Park, according to reports.
The 46-year-old is belived to be on a three man shortlist to replace Steven Hammell, who was sacked ast week following a 3-1 Scottish Cup exit to Championship side Raith Rovers and a dismal run in the Premiership which left the club joint-bottom of the table.
Motherwell's development coach Stuart Kettlewell has been handed the reins on an interim basis and he enjoyed a strong first audition for the job last night in a 2-2 win over St Mirren - which was 'Well's first home league win in nearly six months. It lifted Motherwell off the bottom of the Premiership and ended a run of 11 games without a win.
The Scottish Sun report Ross is set to "open talks in the next 48 hours along with two other candidates."
Ross has been out of the game since August last year when a short-lived spell at Dundee United ended in disaster. The club suffered a 7-1 aggregate defeat to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers before further humiliation followed days later with a 9-0 defeat at home to Celtic in the Premiership.
His reign lasted just seven matches.
However, Ross has a wealth of SPFL experience having been a suiccess at St Mirren and Hibernian, in between a spell in England at Sunderland.
Other names reported to be in the running over the last week include former St Johnstone gaffer Tommy Wright and Dunfermline boss James McPake.
The Steelmen are back in action on Sunday when they host high-flying Hearts in the Premiership.
