Former Hibs ace Josh Doig set for Serie A lifeline

Josh Doig could be set to stay in Serie A just days after his side suffered relegation.

The former Hibernian defender was part of the Sassuolo team that was relegated to Italy's second tier at the weekend.

The 22-year-old moved to the soon-to-be Serie B team in January after impressing at Hellas Verona, whom he joined from Hibs in 2022.

But after their relegation, it seems that Doig could be set for yet another move within Italy, with Hibs Observer stating Roma are keen on the Scotland Under-21 international.

It's been suggested that boss Daniele De Rossi sees Doig as a good fit for his squad.

It's believed that preliminary talks have taken place between the two clubs.

Despite Sassuolo's relegation, Doig's stock remains high and there could well be plenty of interest in his services this summer.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock have completed the signing of Bruce Anderson.

The striker will join the Rugby Park side upon the expiry of his contract at Livingston next month.

The frontman has signed a two-year deal with Derek McInnes' team who will play in round two of Europa League qualifying this summer.

“I am really happy to get it all done, I am over the moon to be here," the 25-year-old said. “The manager was very influential in getting me here, I’ve known him for years, after talking to him I feel like this is the best place for me to be.

“I had options, what made Kilmarnock feel like the right choice though was watching them last season, the way they play really suits me.

“It’s nice to be settled now, I can go into the summer with a focus on coming back to pre-season as best as I can.

“I am coming here to score as many goals as I can, I can’t wait to get going.

“My first competitive game will be in the Europa League, that’s massive, and that’s another reason I was chomping at the bit to sign to be honest, these are the types of games you want to play in as a player, to test yourself at the highest level.”
