The Buffalo Bills were so impressed with former Georgia running back James Cook last season that they decided to part ways with veteran Devin Singletary, who had been a part of the franchise since 2019.
Cook’s rookie campaign proved to be solid, as he gradually earned more carries with the Bills as the season progressed. By the end of 2022, he had accumulated 507 rushing yards on 89 carries, boasting an impressive average of 5.7 yards per carry, along with three total touchdowns.
Despite Buffalo’s acquisition of veterans Damien Harris and Latavius Murray to bolster the running back position, Cook remains unfazed about his status as the lead back on the Bills’ depth chart.
“Obviously, RB1,” Cook said on “The Rich Eisen Show” this week. “So you know, just come in and do what I do. Change the game with my versatility. Catching the ball out of the backfield. Pass blocking. Just try to do what I can do to help the team win games and ultimately win the Super Bowl.”
Cook showcased his versatility as a runner and receiver during his time at Georgia, and he carried that skillset over to Buffalo last season, recording 21 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown.
“RB1 is running back one, so you know I’m going out there first obviously,” Cook said. “I’m ready to work. This is a big step and a goal that I wanted to accomplish in the NFL. Just do what I can do to help the team win games.”
