Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett has made the Los Angeles Rams’ 53-man roster. Barring an unexpected signing or trade, the Rams will roll with Bennett as their second-string quarterback for the first two weeks of the season.
Bennett is expected to back up Matthew Stafford until Jimmy Garoppolo returns from a two game suspension.
Bennett is coming off an up-and-down preseason. He played in the Rams’ first two preseason games, which were both wins. However, he threw five interceptions in the preseason (tied for most in the NFL).
Bennett had some bright moments, including a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes. He finished second in passing yardage and passing attempts this preseason. Bennett finished with the third-most completions (tied) in the preseason.
The Rams will have to make a decision on Bennett after Week 2. They could elect to keep him on their active roster, or Los Angeles could try to bring back Bennett as a member of the practice squad.
