A former FBI agent was found guilty on Friday of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl while working as an Alabama state trooper. Christopher Bauer, 44, was convicted of first-degree sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under 12 after a weeklong trial. This case, initially brought to light by an Associated Press investigation, revealed how Bauer managed to conceal a troubled past and transition from one law enforcement position to another with the aid of an allegedly forged letter indicating he was 'eligible for rehire.'
The Montgomery County district attorney, Daryl D. Bailey, referred to Bauer as a 'sexual predator' and emphasized that no one, including law enforcement officers, is above the law. Bauer faces a potential life sentence at his August 1 sentencing.
