David ‘Syd’ Lawrence, the pioneering cricketer who became the first British-born Black player to represent England, has died at the age of 61.
A formidable bowler, Lawrence took 18 wickets across five Test matches for England between 1988 and 1992. His passing comes almost exactly a year after it was revealed he had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).
