Emmerdale star, Malandra Burrows has revealed that she has stage three breast cancer. She confirmed the news when speaking to OK! The 56-year-old described how she was originally treated for a lump that they thought was a cyst. A follow-up-scan and ultrasound revealed the actress had in fact, got breast cancer.
“I’ve kind of gone into combat mode,” said the actress, who played Kathy Glover in the soap. “I’ve given everything I can and that’s all I can do. I hate to say it, but when your life’s at stake you’re prepared to do everything to get through. That’s helped me focus.”
Malandra is now urging people to go to a GP if they are concerned. She has said that she believes that if she had undergone a mammogram procedure sooner, the cancer may be more treatable. “Regardless of age, if something feels odd, speak to your GP.”
Malandra played Kathy in Emmerdale for 16 years before she left the show in 2001. During her time on the show, her character married Jackie Merrick but was left widowed at a young age when he died in a shooting accident. After quitting the soap, Malandra went on to become a singer and appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2006.
