Former Eastenders actor Danny Hatchard rushed to hospital with arm injury

Former Eastenders star Danny Hatchard was taken to hospital with a serious-looking arm injury from an alleged accident.

Hatchard, who played Lee Carter in the BBC One soap between 2014 and 2017 before brief returns in 2019 and 2020, took to his Instagram Stories with a selfie of himself sat in hospital with his right arm in a cast.

He did not give any details about the suspected broken arm apart from a sarcastic comment of "fun" to his 140,000 followers.

Since he left Eastenders, Danny has turned to other roles. In 2020, he joined the cast of Our Girl - the BBC military drama starring Michelle Keegan - for its fourth season as Private Rhett Charlton. He also appeared in Ridley Road last year.

His last appearance in Albert Square moved viewers to tears in an emotional episode on New Year's Eve in 2020 as Mick Carter contemplated taking his own life.

Lee Carter made a surprise return to the BBC soap, and knew straight away something wasn't right with his father.

Recalling his own battle with depression that led to him almost taking his own life, Lee spotted the signs with his dad.

He begged his father to open up and tell him what was wrong, before it was too late.

Lee was in a similar dark place just a few years ago, but he spoke to someone and was stopped from taking his own life.

Seeing his dad clearly in a bad state, he knew he was depressed and wanted to help him.

Lee sat down and urged him to open up to him or his wife, or anyone - just to speak to someone about how he was really feeling.

He made a call to Samaritans and talked to them about his feelings as he contemplated suicide, before revealing it was Lee's words that made him call them.

Taking to Twitter, viewers praised the scenes with one writing: "This scene between Lee and Mick is so important. Men need to know that it’s ok to open up."

Another said: "Yo big up Lee and the @samaritans doing a boss job there on #Eastenders."

A third added: "Lee being in this episode and showing Mick there’s light at the end of the tunnel, is so powerful. I’m so glad they brought Lee back for this storyline."
