A former urologist has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing multiple patients, including children, over the span of years in the New York area. The former doctor, aged 57, was found guilty in May following a trial where 11 victims testified about being abused by him, with dozens more submitting statements to the court.
The doctor has maintained his innocence, claiming that some of his methods of touching patients were medically necessary. Prosecutors revealed that he sexually abused patients at a prominent hospital in Manhattan from at least 2007 to 2019 and continued the abuse after moving to a different hospital on Long Island.
It was disclosed that the doctor invited at least one victim to his boat, where he provided sedatives and sexually assaulted the individual. The U.S. Attorney stated that the doctor used his position as a renowned urologist at prestigious hospitals to sexually assault vulnerable patients, including children, to gratify his own sexual desires.
The attorney for the doctor mentioned that they would file an appeal in the coming days, emphasizing the doctor's maintained innocence and expressing confidence in his eventual vindication.
