Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has earned a big-money move just over a year after leaving Celtic.
The Greek forward departed the Scottish Premiership champions in February 2023 after disputes over a new contract in Glasgow.
The imposing frontman joined Atlanta United in the United States, with the MLS club paying roughly £4.3m for his services.
Most Celtic fans were sorry to see the 29-year-old leave Parkhead after he contributed 26 goals in 57 appearances.
His form continued in America, as Celtic's loss was Atlanta's gain, with Giakoumakis awarded the MLS' Newcomer of the Year in his debut season.
This gained him further recognition, with several clubs declaring their interest in signing the striker.
Now, his move to Mexican giants Cruz Azul has been confirmed.
They have paid in the region of $10m for Giakoumakis, following his 24 goal and seven assists for Atlanta.
The figure equates to around £7.9m, which means the MLS side has made £3.6m profit on the player in less than 18 months.
It's unknown if Celtic had a sell-on clause included as part of their deal with Atlanta, however, it wasn't reported at the time.
Former Rangers defender Carlos Bocanegra - now Atlanta's vice president - confirmed the transfer.
He said: “We’re grateful for Giorgos’ contributions during his time at the club and we wish him the best moving forward.
“This transfer illustrates the nature of operating in a global marketplace.
“With a lot of the season left to play, we plan to strengthen the group during the upcoming Summer Transfer Window.”
Meanwhile, tributes have been paid to the man who played a 'pivotal role in saving Celtic'.
Former director and honorary chairman, John Keane, sadly passed away yesterday, with the club, Dermot Desmond and other high-profile figures paying tribute.
Keane paid £1m to keep Celtic going and ultimately to avoid administration during the 1990s. He later supported Fergus McCann's takeover.
The lifelong Celtic supporter served as a non-director of the Scottish Premiership club for over 20 years, and in 2013, was named honorary chairman.
