Former Celtic star's injury fears heightened as boss admits 'it's not looking good' for Hoops hero

Arsenal are awaiting a specialist's opinion to determine how long former Celtic star Kieran Tierney will be out of action.

Fears grew for the Muirhouse ace on Monday as reports suggested a knee injury which may require surgery will keep him out for the rest of this season.

His time at the Gunners has been stop-start due to fitness issues but the 24-year-old has impressed boss Mikel Arteta with a consistent run of Premier League matches.

The Spaniard's side are pushing for a Champions League spot but Tierney could now miss the final part of that fight.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke will also look on nervously, with World Cup play-off matches with Ukraine and potentially Wales to come in June.

Arteta says that the initial diagnosis isn't positive after the Lanarkshire left-back picked up the knock with his national team in friendlies with Austria and Poland last month.

The former Rangers player told Sky Sports: "He came back from international duty and felt something wrong in his knee.

"There is some damage there. We will hopefully know more on Tuesday but it's not looking good.

"He is seeing the specialist on Tuesday and we will know more about the extent of the injury but the feeling that he had wasn't really positive and what the scan showed either.

"We have to wait and see what happens."

Tierney joined Arsenal in 2019 from Celtic and has been debated as a potential captaincy option at the Emirates.
