Former Celtic star Christopher Jullien faces old Hoops pal in stunning Montpellier debut

Christopher Jullien was back out on the grass as he enjoyed a debut to remember with his new club.

The former Celtic defender departed Parkhead for a return to France with Montpellier as he looks to get his career back up and running. It comes after an extended injury period and lack of first-team football.

The 29-year-old was unable to dislodge Cameron Carter-Vickers or Carl Starfelt last season following his return to fitness. Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh were also on the books and ahead of him in the pecking order.

Ange Postecoglou allowed the stopper to seek a fresh challenge and, after a move to Schalke collapsed earlier this summer, he got his transfer away to his homeland And he made the perfect start, playing the whole 90 minutes in a huge seven-nil triumph.

There was a familiar face on the opposition for Jullien with former Hoops starlet and highly-rated youngster Karamoko Dembele climbing off the bench for hosts Brest. Jullien and Co raced into a huge 5-0 lead at the break thanks to goals from Faitout Maouassa, Wahibi Khazri, Nicolas Cozza and a first half double from Elye Wahi.

Brest managed to contain the second half scoring to just two strikes with Valere Germain adding a double of his own to secure a thumping win. It was just the visitors' second win of the campaign as they boast two wins and two defeats from the opening four games to leave themselves eighth in the standings at this very early stage.

Brest are back in 14th spot with one win, one draw and two defeats after the huge loss on their own patch. Jullien and his new team-mates return to action on Wednesday evening with a home clash against Ajaccio.

Meanwhile Brest make the trip on the same evening to face Rennes.
