Tony Mowbray could be set to become the next manager of Sunderland in what would be his fourth club since leaving Celtic 12 years ago.
Alex Neil has sent shockwaves around the Black Cats as he closes in on a move to their Championship rivals Stoke City after six months in charge. The Northern Echo report that his replacement may be the former Celtic defender and boss, as he 'looks certain to be confirmed as Sunderland manager.'
He may be in the dugout for their trip to Middlesbrough for next Monday night’s Tees-Wear derby - the first match between those clubs in four years after the Stadium of Light side ended their stint in League One ahead of this campaign.

Since leaving Celtic, the 58-year-old has been manager of Middlesbrough, Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers, who he left at the end of last season after becoming their gaffer in 2017.
His stint at Celtic did not last as long, lasting less than a year during the 2009/10 season, a term which included results such as a 4-0 loss at St Mirren.
Mowbray also spent four seasons as a player at Parkhead before finishing his career down south in Suffolk with Ipswich Town.
