Former Celtic goalkeeper leaves Motherwell without playing a first team game

Motherwell have announced the departure of Scott Fox - with the goalkeeper having never featuring for the first team.

The 35-year-old has been with the club for 18 months but has been kept out of the side by captain Liam Kelly.. He also faced competition ex-former Aston Villa shot-stopper Aston Oxborough.

Former Celtic man Fox - who was temporarily the Fir Park goalkeeping coach at the start of the season when Andy Dibble departed - has been released from his contract so he can pursue pastures new once the January transfer window opens in just over a week.

A statement by the club tonight read: "Scott Fox has left the club by mutual agreement.

"The 35-year-old signed for the Steelmen back in the summer of 2020, but never featured in a competitive first-team match whilst at Fir Park.

"He spent part of this season on loan at Queen of the South, but was recalled due to a lack of game time.

"He has now agreed a release that will allow him to search for a new club when the January transfer window opens.

"Everyone at Motherwell Football Club would like to thank Scott for his contribution whilst with the club and wish him every success with his future career."

* Meanwhile, Motherwell's Premiership clash with Hearts in February has been moved for Sky Sports coverage.

The game has been put back 24 hours to Sunday, February 19 and will kick-off at 12pm.
