Former Celtic defender joins Manchester City coaching staff

Kolo Toure has been added to Manchester City's coaching staff.

The iconic defender, who made 17 appearances for Celtic after being reunited with Brendan Rodgers during the 2016/17 season before hanging up his boots, endured an ill-fated 59-day managerial stint at Wigan Athletic in 2022 and had been out of work since.

Toure left Wigan bottom of the English Championship having failed to win register a single win from his nine games in charge.

But he's now back involved within football again, with Manchester City appointing the Ivorian as an Under-16s assistant coach.

Toure, now 43, isn't the only former icon to make a return to the Etihad Stadium for the upcoming season.

Richard Dunne has also been officially integrated into the English Premier League champions' Under-18s coaching set-up, helping new boss, Oliver Reiss, unearth the next generation of first team talent.

City academy director, Thomas Krucken, detailed why he's made significant changes to the academy set-up in the pursuit of finding the 'future player'.

"I am very pleased and excited to be able to confirm our coaching structure for the new season," Krucken said.

"This is part of our evolution and progression looking to the future and also illustrates that we are keen to promote from within and encourage a clear career progression and pathway.

"We have enjoyed great success in recent seasons, but we want to continue to look to develop and improve. Continuing Manchester City academy's development is vital, and these appointments leave us ideally equipped to meet the challenges of next season and beyond."
